An assault and robbery at a Wiarton park. Two suspicious fires in Oliphant. One suspect.
Grey Bruce OPP arrested a 39-year-old man of no fixed address in relation to the crimes on Wednesday.
The arrest came after police were called about an assault in progress in Bluewater Park in Wiarton. Officers were told a man had been found rummaging in a parked vehicle in the park just after 1:30 p.m. When confronted he allegedly became agitated and aggressive, yelling and ultimately shoved one person to the ground. The man then took off with several items stolen from the vehicle before being arrested shortly after.
Police linked the same man to two suspicious fires at a wooden outbuilding on Bruce Road 13 in Oliphant. The first happened on June 15, while the second fire was set just after 1 a.m. on Wednesday. Firefighters arrived to find the outbuilding fully engulfed in flames and a section of Bruce Road 13 had to be temporarily closed while crews doused the blaze.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
A 39-year-old man is charged with one count each of robbery with violence and resisting arrest, and two counts of arson. He is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound Court in relation to the charges on Thursday.
Police are asking anyone with information about the assault and robbery or suspicious fires to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
