OPP urging road safety following numerous motorcycle incidents

The Grey Bruce OPP is asking for more awareness and cautious driving following a number of accidents involving motorcycles.

A media release from the OPP shares that on Monday, June 23, Grey Bruce OPP officers responded to two separate motorcycle collisions, both resulting in what police are calling "life-altering injuries."

Those incidents follow two fatal crashes over the last few weeks where police determined that speed was a critical factor.

Police note that with summer in full swing, there is an increase in traffic on local roads and highways, including a high volume of motorcycle riders. Police are asking drivers to obey posted speed limits and to watch for motorcycles, especially during lane changes and at intersections.

Also, drivers are urged to avoid distractions and keep eyes on the road at all times and never drive impaired.

"We are deeply concerned by the recent trend in serious and fatal collisions," said Staff Sergeant Henry Thalen. "Speeding, aggressive driving, and inattention are putting lives at risk. We're asking everyone-whether you're behind the wheel or on two wheels-to slow down, stay alert, and share the road."
