The Avon Maitland District School Board has finalized its North Perth boundary review process, confirming a major shift for local students beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.
At a special meeting held June 23, 2025, the AMDSB Board of Trustees approved the relocation of Grade 7 and 8 students from Listowel Eastdale Public School (LEPS) and North Perth Westfield Elementary School (NPWES) to Listowel District Secondary School (LDSS). The change is set to take effect on September 1, 2026, giving families more than a year to prepare.
The move is part of a broader effort by the board to balance student populations across North Perth and surrounding rural schools in response to continued population growth and shifting enrolment trends.
The boundary review was first launched in fall 2024 and involved eight schools across the region, including six in the Municipality of North Perth, one in Perth East, and one in Howick Township. The schools involved were lma Township Public School, Howick Central Public School, Listowel Eastdale Public School, Mornington Central Public School, Milverton Public School, North Perth Westfield Elementary School, North Woods Elementary School, and Listowel District Secondary School.
To lead the process, AMDSB created the North Perth Boundary Review Committee, which included parent and guardian representatives from each school. The committee met throughout the school year and held public consultations, including a rescheduled open house in March due to a measles outbreak.
Feedback from these sessions, along with staff reports and additional options requested by trustees, were reviewed over five board meetings between April and June. The final decision was announced at the June 23 meeting.
To support students, staff and families through the transition, AMDSB says a transition committee will be formed this fall. The committee will help ensure a smooth move from LEPS and NPWES to LDSS.
