Youth arrested following break-in and alcohol theft

A 16-year-old from Arran-Elderslie has been arrested and charged following a recent break-in.

On June 20 at 9 a.m., South Bruce OPP officers were called about a break-and-enter at a property along Bruce Road 17 in Arran-Elderslie.

Police arrived and discovered that the property had been broken into and several bottles of alcohol were stolen. The suspect was still at the scene and was arrested without incident.

The accused has been charged with break-and-enter and theft under $5,000, and was also charged for a nearby theft from a vehicle.

The accused has been released from police custody and is set to appear at the Walkerton Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

The youth's identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
