SVCA permit processing on track

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority's focus on timely and accurate guidance for development is paying off.

According to the Conservation Authority, the average permit issuance time from April to December 2024 was 3.69 days.

The SVCA reports that 98 per cent compliance was achieved in notifying applicants of application completeness within the legislated 21-day timeline, and they saw 100 per cent compliance in meeting legislated permit issuance timelines, with 30 days for minor permits and 90 days for major permits.

"We are proud of our team's commitment to providing timely, accurate guidance for property owners and developers," said Matt Armstrong, Manager of Environmental Planning and Regulations. "These results highlight our dedication to protecting people and property from natural hazards while supporting sustainable development across the Saugeen watershed."

The SVCA handles about 1,000 inquiries each year regarding proposed projects and property purchases that may be impacted by environmental hazards, such as flooding or erosion, or that could interfere with watercourses or wetlands

The SVCA strives to strike a balance between protecting people and property from natural hazards and promoting sustainable development.

Through site visits, mapping reviews, and, when necessary, technical assessments, SVCA works with applicants to ensure their projects can proceed safely and in compliance with environmental regulations.
