Protests against Scotiabank's ties to Israeli weapons manufacturer reach Midwestern Ontario

A Canada-wide protest held to demand that Scotiabank stop investing in an Israeli weapons firm reached communities in Midwestern Ontario.

The protests were held at over 50 Scotiabank locations across the country on June 14. Organizers of the protests and the attendees were demanding that the bank chain's executives stop "genocide profiteering" and divest all investments in Elbit Systems, which is an Israeli weapons manufacturer.

Thousands of people attended the protests which were dubbed the Scotiabank Funds Genocide campaign National Day of Action.

Included in the protest locations were Owen Sound, London, and Collingwood.

Participants included "parents of physicians who had volunteered in Gaza, members of the Jewish community, and Palestinians alike who have suffered immensely due to the ongoing onslaught in Gaza," according to a media release from Scotiabank Funds Genocide protest group, which is part of the Just Peace Advocates organization.
