Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington increasing rewards for human trafficking tips

Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) is joining other Crime Stoppers regional outlets in offering increased rewards for human trafficking tips.

CSGW says the organization is joining Halton, Durham Region, Waterloo Region and Niagara Region Crime Stoppers in this initiative, which began June 1 and will run until September 1.

This is being done in an effort to "increase visibility within the respective communities resulting in information that will help stop this growing crime," according to a statement from CSGW.

During this period, tips provided to any of the partnering Crime Stoppers programs will receive the maximum reward amount if the information the tipster provides leads to arrests in human trafficking offences.

To report human trafficking, of any other type of crime, anonymously and confidentially, provide a web tip to CSGW at www.csgw.tips or call 1-800-222-TIPS.

"CSGW is involved in this initiative as it will benefit Guelph Wellington directly, and it has the potential to end suffering for human trafficking victims," said Dave Elloway, Chair of CSGW, and who worked with the regional Crime Stoppers programs to localize the campaign. "We believe there is information in our communities that can assist our policing partners in the greater area served by this collaborative effort, that will allow the successful investigation and eventual prosecution of persons involved in human trafficking. Crime knows no borders, neither does Crime Stoppers and the guarantee of anonymity through Crime Stoppers."
