Province funding transit in Grey Bruce

The Ontario government is investing nearly $15 million to improve transit services in rural areas, with $9,495,000 earmarked for Bruce, Grey, and Dufferin counties.

The funding, delivered through the Ontario Transit Investment Fund (OTIF), will help integrate new and existing transit services in the three counties into a single regional network, while maintaining service on Route 2 between Dundalk and Orangeville.

“Whether it’s small businesses attracting customers and employees, students getting to school, or families visiting loved ones, our government’s investment in regional transit is helping rural communities remain vibrant and healthy places to live, work and do business,” said Minister Lisa Thompson.

Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Rick Vickers called the investment essential.

“From the time I started serving as MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, I have heard just how important local transportation is," he explained. "I am very grateful to the government for making this $9.495-million investment in a coordinated transportation solution to connect residents to their communities and new opportunities.”

The Ontario Transit Investment Fund helps municipalities, Indigenous communities and not-for-profit organizations start up or expand transit services in unserved or underserved parts of the province.

More details about the regional transit project are expected in the coming months from local project partners.
