Bruce County municipalities receive Evacuation and Reception Centre Training

All member municipalities in Bruce County will be completing Evacuation and Reception Centre Training in June.

A media release from the county shares that Bruce County and local municipalities have "taken proactive steps to ensure residents have a safe place to go in times of crisis."

Those could include tornadoes, fires or flooding. Every municipality in Bruce County has designated an Evacuation and Reception Centre.

At those centres, residents can access a number of services in an emergency, including safe spaces where basic needs such as shelter, food, and clothing can be met. The centres are staffed by trained personnel, including municipal employees, Bruce County Human Services staff and Canadian Red Cross volunteers.

The centres are all equipped for registration services, family supports and up-to-date emergency information. They can also host insurance representatives, disaster assistance sessions and recovery resources.

"This training is an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, build relationships and deepen our understanding of roles and responsibilities in times of emergency," said Tina Metcalfe, director of Human Services at Bruce County. "By working together, we’re better prepared to provide coordinated, compassionate support to residents across Bruce County when they need it most."
