A public art project led by local youth will transform the Henry Street Tunnel in Mitchell.
According to a media release from Perth County, the new art project is a partnership between the county, Mitchell District High School, Youth Unlimited YFC Tri-city, and the West Perth Heritage and Culture Committee.
In April, West Perth Council designated the Henry Street Tunnel, located by the intersection of Henry Street and Pond Street, as a Public Street Art Area.
The tunnel, which is already filled with graffiti, will undergo a transformation on June 13. Youth artists will be painting a unified background over the inappropriate artwork while preserving the appropriate graffiti that exists there.
During the work, students will be guided by professional artist Roy Verbeek from Paint with Purpose. The public is encouraged to come on June 13 between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to witness the new artwork. The theme is "My West Perth" and students will be incorporating what West Perth means to them.
