Sports world sending love to Walkerton after tragedy

The NCAA softball community reached out to show its support for Walkerton District Community School, following last week's tragic loss of four student athletes and their coach.

The five were returning from a softball tournament in Dorchester when they were killed in a collision.

Members of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers sent a video to the school Thursday, ahead of their opening game at the Women's College World Series.

The women acknowledged that softball is a tight-knit community and pitcher Karlyn (Carolyn) Pickens said Walkerton would be in their thoughts.

"On behalf of Tennessee Softball, we just want to wish you and your community all the love and support and prayers, we know this is definitely a hard time for you and we are here supporting you at (Oklahoma City)," she said.

Tennessee fell to the reigning champion Oklahoma Sooners on Thursday, losing on the final out 4-3.

The Humboldt Broncos, famous for a tragic crash that killed 16 members of the hockey team in 2018, also tweeted out their support on Thursday.
