Man charged after motorcyclist uses Hanover trail to evade police

A West Grey man is facing a long list of charges after a motorcyclist used a community trail in Hanover to try to get away from police.

Hanover police officers were attempting to stop the bike on Saturday night when it allegedly took off at a high rate of speed, turning down the community trail at the 14th Street entrance. The driver soon lost control and crashed. He then is alleged to have took off running.

Officers eventually caught up with the man and after a brief struggle an arrest was made.

No injuries were reported.

A 40-year-old West Grey man is charged with 10 criminal offences including dangerous driving, flight from police, resisting arrest, and driving while prohibited. An additional seven traffic, insurance, and cannabis-related charges were also laid. Those include driving without licence plates, driving with cannabis in open baggage, driving with no insurance, and making unnecessary noise.

The man was remanded into custody at a bail hearing, police said.
