A 40-year-old West Grey man is facing a slew of charges after leading Hanover police on a chase through the community trail on Saturday night.
According to a release from Hanover Police, officers attempted to stop a suspect riding a motorcycle at the north end of 12th Avenue around 10 p.m. The man allegedly fled at a high rate of speed, turning onto the community trail at 14th Street.
Shortly after turning onto the community trail, police say the suspect lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. He continued to flee on foot before being arrested by the pursuing officers a short distance away.
The suspect was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody. He has been charged with 10 criminal offences that include flight from police, dangerous operation, resisting arrest, breach of probation, and driving while prohibited. He also faces additional traffic, insurance and cannabis related charges.
The man is scheduled to appear in Walkerton court at a later date.
The motorcycle was impounded by police.
Hanover Police warn that fleeing from the officers is reckless, dangerous and puts the lives of innocent people at risk. Those who engage in such behaviour can face consequences that include jail sentences, fines and further suspensions.
