A popular low cost intercity bus service will be adding more beach town stops to its Toronto to Owen Sound route as of this week.
Starting Thursday, FlixBus will have stops in Sauble Beach, Southampton, and Port Elgin. The new offering is a seasonal extension of the existing route.
“With summer travel season just around the corner, we’re thrilled to offer Ontarians and visitors a convenient, sustainable way to reach some of the province’s best-loved beach towns,” Karina Frayter, the bus company's North American head of communications, said in a statement on Monday. “This route extension reflects our commitment to connecting more communities across Canada and giving travelers easy, budget-friendly access to top seasonal destinations.”
The extended route will run daily, seven days a week. It will link passengers to major hubs including Toronto Union Station Bus Terminal, Pearson International Airport, Barrie, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Blue Mountain Village, Thornbury, Meaford, Owen Sound, South Bruce Peninsula Visitor Center, Sauble Beach, Southampton, and Port Elgin.
For the municipalities added to the route, the hope is to draw more people to the region.
“This expanded route offers a safe and affordable travel option that opens our region to more visitors and new opportunities. It’s a win for local businesses, residents, and tourists alike," said South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Jay Kirkland.
FlixBus, which originated in Europe in 2013, has been in operation in Ontario since April 2022 with with intercity bus routes from Toronto to Ottawa, Waterloo to Toronto, and Niagara Falls to Toronto. It has expanded it offering to London, Hamilton, and Sarnia since then.
