An RV road trip is in the near future for an Owen Sound man who won more than $260,000 through Lotto 6/49.
Ross Barkwell was the second prize winner in the April 9 lottery draw. He won a total of $260,636.80.
The father of four and grandfather of three had only been playing the lottery for two years. He said he had not been planning to buy any tickets on the day he purchased the big winner.
"My mom mentioned the Lotto 6/49 jackpot was at $44 million. Her lucky number is 44, so I decided to purchase two tickets — one for me and one for her," Barkwell said while picking up his winnings at OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. "I had initially planned to pick them up at my usual store, but something told me to go somewhere else. I listened to that little voice in my head — and now here I am, claiming $260,000.”
Barkwell added that he took his mother with him when he validated his ticket at the store.
“She was so thrilled for me,” said Barkwell.
He plans to use his windfall to hit the road in an RV and invest for retirement.
"Winning has been such a joyful experience — one that’s brought happiness and a sense of comfort," said Barkwell. " I look forward to enjoying more time with family, with a little relief from life’s financial pressures."
The winning ticket was purchased at Balmy Beach Convenience on Grey Road in Owen Sound.
