Bruce Power is celebrating national recognition for its ongoing commitment to safety as a recipient of Canadian Occupational Safety’s prestigious 5-Star Safety Cultures Award. The award honours organizations that champion safety excellence and prioritize the well-being of their workforce.
“Bruce Power remains committed to living its number one value of Safety First,” said Terry Rothmaier, Senior Vice-President of Governance, Oversight, Assessment, and Learning. “We understand the risks inherent to our work and take effective preventive and protective measures to keep people, the plant and the public safe.”
Rothmaier added that the company’s unwavering commitment to safety includes continuously improving its management programs and empowering employees to actively participate in identifying and addressing hazards.
“We want to ensure employees plan and consider safety from the start of every job and are involved every step of the way,” he said.
To earn a 5-Star designation, companies must achieve an overall employee satisfaction rating of at least 80 per cent in a national survey assessing drivers of employee satisfaction, including safety culture. Bruce Power’s performance over the past year was evaluated alongside employee feedback to secure this recognition. A 5-star safety culture is built on the principle that employees not only have the knowledge to identify hazards but also the confidence to speak up and participate in corrective actions.
Bruce Power has a goal to ensure every worker goes home safe and healthy after each shift.
