Fire officials are reminding the public not to carelessly dispose of cigarettes after a small wildfire near the Saugeen River.
Firefighters with Saugeen Fire and Emergency Services were called to the grassy area along the river near Southampton around 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday. When fire crews arrived an area approximately 200 metres in length was on fire.
The blaze was brought under control with firefighters conducting a controlled burn of a portion of the area. There are no buildings or structures near that spot, fire officials reassured.
No injuries or damage was reported.
"As the seasons change and the weather warms, please be fire smart and avoid careless disposal of items such as cigarettes in seasonally dry areas," Saugeen Fire and Emergency Services advised in a statement posted to social media.
