Dozens of properties in downtown Port Elgin will have to contend with temporary water disruptions at the start of next week.
Officials with the Town of Saugeen Shores issued an advisory that multiple properties will be affected between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Monday due to road work on Goderich Street (Highway 21). The stretch of road between Concession 6 and Concession 10 is currently undergoing the first phase of resurfacing, brick intersection restoration, and minor underground infrastructure upgrades.
Work that includes underground service replacement at the intersections of Gustavus Street and Green Street began last month.
The town stated that while the water service disruption is only expected to last 13 hours, there is a chance it could be extended if there are unforeseen complications during the planned work.
"We appreciate your co-operation and regret any inconvenience," the town said in a statement.
Those affected by the disruption are advised to run their taps until the water is clear once service is restored.
Detour routes have been established to help navigate drivers around the ongoing work. Pedestrians will still be able to access downtown businesses throughout the construction period and alternate parking areas will be provided.
The second phase of the Goderich Street resurfacing project is scheduled to begin on May 19. It will see underground service replacement and interlocking brick replacement at the intersections of Mill Street and Elgin Street, as well as the new asphalt between Market Street and Emma Street.
