Swim-a-thon hoping to raise money for new starting blocks

The Hanover Swim Club will hold a swim-a-thon event to help raise money for new starting blocks.

On Friday, April 25, from 4:15-8:15 p.m. the P and H Centre in Hanover will be the site for the event where local swimmers will go the distance as the complete as many laps as possible within a set time while reeling in donations from sponsors.

Eighty swimmers will participate, as the Performance Group will attempt an impressive goal of 5,000 metres, or 200 laps in a 25-metre pool. The mid-level training groups will be doing 2,000 metres or 80 laps, and the beginner groups will attempt 1,200 metres or 48 laps.

The goal is to raise $12,000 to fund new starting blocks for the pool. The blocks cost upwards of $10,000. The club is working on getting funding to support getting five new blocks for the pool.
