Residents and drivers east of Owen Sound were told to lock their doors as police searched for a person wanted in connection with an incident in the city.
Owen Sound police were called about a disturbance at an apartment building in the west-end around 4 p.m. on Sunday. However, before officers arrived a man took off from the area in a vehicle.
"Police attempted to stop the male in the vehicle on more than one occasion however the male continued to flee and the pursuits were discontinued for public safety reasons," police said.
Grey Bruce OPP were contacted and officers with the OPP West Region emergency response team and canine unit flooded the area of Highway 26 between Grey Road 11 and Grey Road 15 and Grey Road 11 between Highway 26 and Story Book Park Road searching for the suspect.
Officers initially cleared the area just after midnight on Monday, but returned around 7:50 a.m. after receiving new information. Roads were closed for a second time as police conducted a search. By 8:30 a.m. OPP advised one person had been taken into custody and the area reopened.
During the search, residents and drivers were asked to keep their doors locked to prevent the individual being sought from entering their home or vehicle.
"As a general safety measure, it's always a good habit to keep your residence and vehicle doors locked-even when you're at home," OPP said.
The suspect has been turned over to the Owen Sound Police Service, which stated the arrest is part of a larger on-going investigation.
Officers remain at the west-end apartment building as the investigation continues.
There is no risk to public safety, police reassured.
