Measles exposure alert for Wingham and Stratford

Huron Perth Public Health is warning residents about possible measles exposures in both Wingham and Stratford.

The affected locations and times include:

  • The Diagnostic Imaging area at Wingham & District Hospital on Wednesday, April 9 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.

  • Long & McQuade in Stratford on Saturday, April 5 between 9:55 a.m. and 12:35 p.m.

  • Ross' Bike Works in Stratford that same day from 10:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.

  • St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford on April 5 from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

Anyone who visited these locations during those timeframes is advised to monitor for measles symptoms—such as fever, cough, red eyes, or a rash—for 21 days after exposure.

HPPH says those born in or after 1970 who haven't had two doses of the measles vaccine, as well as those with weakened immune systems, pregnant individuals, and infants, may be at higher risk.

Measles is highly contagious and can linger in the air for up to two hours. For more information, including a self-assessment tool and clinic details, visit hpph.ca/measles.

To report symptoms, call 1-888-221-2133 ext. 3299.
