Bruce Power has launched a new initiative called "Canadian at Our Core," reinforcing its commitment to made-in-Canada energy solutions, medical isotopes, and a robust domestic supply chain.
The campaign urges Bruce Power’s partners, suppliers, and the broader community to “buy local and buy Canadian” in support of economic stability and national energy security.
“Bruce Power is one of Canada’s largest private investors in critical infrastructure that provides clean, reliable, made-in-Canada electricity and life-saving medical isotopes,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice-President. “We can’t have economic security without energy security and our plan is to play a central role in the future of Canada’s electricity supply and to lead the world in medical isotope production.”
The company has outlined five key pillars of the initiative, including a target to keep 95 per cent of spending in Canada, support for Indigenous reconciliation, expansion of local supplier presence in Bruce, Grey, and Huron Counties, and leadership in isotope innovation.
“Bruce Power is launching our Canadian at our Core campaign because we’re proud of the role we play. We’re always humble that people are counting on us, and we’re dedicated to always improving while making a difference,” Scongack added.
Ontario Minister of Energy and Mines Stephen Lecce expressed strong support for the campaign.
“At a time when the United States has taken aim at our economy, our government is laser-focused on ensuring Ontarians have access to a domestic supply of affordable, reliable and clean energy,” Lecce said. “An unprecedented attack requires a united response that leverages more products made by, for, and in Canada.”
Bruce Power also reaffirmed its continued collaboration with global nuclear partners despite international trade tensions. The company emphasized that “trade disputes will not take our focus off safety and operational excellence.”
Since the launch of its Life-Extension Program, more than 60 suppliers have established operations in the Clean Energy Frontier region, bringing jobs and investments to local communities. The program, which is Canada’s largest private-sector clean energy infrastructure project, supports 22,000 jobs across Ontario each year and generates billions in economic activity.
“We all need to play our part to make sure we weather the storm in uncertain times, and we can support each other just as we did during the pandemic to ensure our communities continue to thrive,” said Kenneth Craig, Mayor of the Municipality of Kincardine.
“Bruce Power is a major driver of the economy in our region, and we’re proud to support the Canadian at our Core campaign," said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau added, “There is no better way to strengthen the core of Canada than by rallying together to shop local.”
