Dublin Lions to host well water testing at end of the month

The Dublin Lions club is trying to make it easier for area residents to test their well water.

The club will host a Water Wise event later this month, thanks to support from Huron County's Clean Water Project.

Participants can get a water sampling bottle ahead of time from a Dublin Lions Club member, then they fill the bottle on the day and drop it off at the event.

Elizabeth Balfour, Program Co-Supervisor, said it removes a step to testing with the Health Unit to make the service more accessible.

"We take the need to drive back to the Health Unit out of the equation," she said. "We do that service the day after the event, then the lab runs up the results and those are sent directly to the landowner and they're able to see if E.coli or another form of bacteria is present in their drinking water."

This is the 11th Water Wise well testing and public information event held in Huron County since 2023.

Balfour said well water should be checked almost every season.

"The recommendation is three to four times (a year)," she said. "It is highly recommended to do it in spring and fall when we have wetter weather, and there's more water in the groundwater system, so that would be a good time to test your well water."

The Water Wise event will be held on Tuesday, April 29, between 7 and 9 p.m. at the Dublin Community Centre.
