Monthly unemployment dips slightly in Midwestern Ontario

The local unemployment rate in the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula Economic Region ticked down slightly in March.

That's according to the latest jobs numbers report from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board.

According to the latest numbers, unemployment decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 5.4 per cent. Meanwhile, the provincial unemployment rate increased from 7.2 per cent to 7.6 per cent, both unadjusted for seasonality.

In March, the region experienced a decrease of about 2,100 people in overall employment, with approximately 500 full-time gains and 2,500 part-time losses.

The biggest losses were in construction, with a decrease of 1,600, followed by a loss of 100 in manufacturing. The biggest gains were in utilities, which added 1,300 jobs, and 100 in agriculture.
