A new family doctor will arrive in North Bruce Peninsula next month.
The Peninsula Family Health Team announced this week that Dr. Claire Bodkin will join the practice in May.
Dr. Bodkin has previous experience in the region, serving as clinic locum and emergency department physician last summer.
She graduated from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine at McMaster University.
"Dr. Bodkin is the fifth full time physician to join the MNBP clinical practice since 2016," said Pamela Loughlean, Executive Director of the Peninsula FHT. "During a time in which we see shortages of family physicians in so many communities across Ontario, we are delighted that Dr. Bodkin and her family have chosen to make the Bruce Peninsula their home."
The Peninsula Family Health Team will be offering rostered patient spots with Dr. Bodkin to North Bruce Peninsula residents who do not currently have a family physician and have been on the waitlist. She will see patients in the Lion's Head and Tobermory clinics, as well as expanding care in the areas of substance use disorders, gender affirming care and mental health.
"Adding Dr. Bodkin to our team not only strengthens the work we already do but also brings additional practice skills and knowledge that will broaden patient care services here on the Peninsula," said Dr. Elaine Blau, Lead Physician of the Peninsula FHT.
The family health team thanked Mayor, Council and the Physician Recruitment and Retention committee for the Municipality of North Bruce Peninsula for their support.
