Flood outlook issued for Saugeen watershed

Saugeen Conservation has issued a Flood Outlook for the Saugeen watershed, warning of potential localized flooding from March 28 to April 3, 2025 due to a series of rain events expected over the weekend.

Rainfall totals are forecasted to range between 20 to 60 mm, with the first system arriving Friday afternoon and continuing into Saturday, bringing the possibility of thunderstorms. A second system is expected early Sunday. In northern areas of the watershed, freezing rain and mixed precipitation could also occur.

With saturated soil and remaining snowpack in some areas, water levels may rise quickly, increasing the risk of localized flooding, especially in low-lying areas and near smaller watercourses. While widespread flooding is not expected, larger rivers could near overtopping levels.

Residents are urged to stay clear of rivers, creeks, and flood-prone areas, as fast-moving water and slippery banks pose significant hazards. Municipal staff will be monitoring road conditions, with possible closures in flood-prone areas.

Saugeen Conservation will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as necessary. This advisory remains in effect until April 3 at 4 p.m., unless conditions change.
