Municipal Innovation Council comes to a close

The Municipal Innovation Council (MIC) is coming to an end this March.

The council was formed in 2020 by eight Bruce County municipalities that sought to find savings and efficiencies, and deliver services better to their residents.

The Town of Saugeen Shores acts as treasurer for the council.

At Monday's meeting, Mayor Luke Charbonneau thanked CAO Kara Van Myall for her work as chair of the council, specifically highlighting the work with the Smart Beach program.

"The Smart Beach program continues to roll out, you know the MIC is coming to an end but that project isn't coming to an end," said Mayor Charbonneau. "I think we'll have a great opportunity for some real-time safety information on our beaches. I think that's been a great and successful program in particular."

Other programs the MIC ran included a topographical mapping project; the Food Cycler program; and the Simply Brilliant Idea program, which crowdsourced solutions to municipal challenges from staff.

The council chose to dissolve in December and integrate ongoing efforts into members respective organizations.

The council's surplus funds will be returned to the partner municipalities.
