The measles outbreak in Huron Perth continues to grow, with the case count now at 55, according to a report released Thursday from Public Health Ontario.
That's up from the 14 confirmed outbreak cases and 22 probable outbreak cases reported on March 17. Huron Perth has the third-highest case count in the province, but most cases continue to be located in the jurisdictions of Southwestern and Grand Erie Public Health.
There have been nine cases confirmed in Grey Bruce. Eight cases occurred in October of 2024, and one was confirmed on March 21, 2025.
The province has 572 confirmed and suspected cases since the outbreak began in October, an increase of over 100 cases in a week. Cases are occurring in 13 different public health units.
Ontario is part of a multi-jurisdictional outbreak with measles activity occurring in Ontario, New Brunswick, and Manitoba.
Measles usually begins with a fever, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes, followed by a red, blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads to the body and limbs. The virus can lead to pneumonia, inflammation of the brain and death.
