Bruce County Cultural Action Plan makes progress

Bruce County has released a new Community Update on its Cultural Action Plan (CAP), highlighting progress in supporting the growth of the arts, culture, and heritage sectors.

The Cultural Action Plan outlines strategic directions to enrich community life, create economic opportunities, and preserve the county’s cultural heritage. Through coordinated efforts, the county aims to build cultural capacity, enhance communication, and strengthen collaboration with local organizations.

In 2024, the county administered a survey on the state of culture, launched a new cultural page on the Bruce County website, and hosted two grant-writing workshops for 50 representatives from community cultural organizations.

Another key step was the formation of the Cultural Roundtable, which brought together municipal staff, cultural organizations, and community representatives. The Roundtable provides input on cultural planning and fosters communication to help meet local needs. Community members interested in contributing are encouraged to join.

“Continued involvement in cultural action planning by members of the community is key to keeping Bruce County vibrant and shapes the County’s distinctive and diverse identity,” said Warden Luke Charbonneau.

In 2025, the Cultural Action Plan Steering Committee will research best practices for inclusive interpretive signage programs and share those with municipalities. Designated heritage structures will be incorporated into the county’s GIS planning platform, and there are plans to create an interactive culture map for Bruce County. Plans are also in the works to put together a directory of contacts for cultural performances, ceremonies, and events. A Cultural Symposium is planned to connect cultural organizations for networking, learning, and collaboration. The committee will also encourage involvement in cultural organizations with the Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership
