Huron Perth Public Health confirms Measles case

Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) has confirmed the region’s first case of measles, as outbreaks continue in southwestern Ontario. The health unit has completed contact tracing and will not release further details.

“There has been an ongoing measles outbreak in southwestern Ontario, and we have been closely monitoring the situation,” said Dr. Lauren Hayward, Physician Consultant at HPPH. “Now is a good time to review information about measles and measles vaccination if you haven’t already.”

Measles is a highly contagious airborne virus, spreading through coughs, sneezes, and even breathing. Symptoms include fever, cough, red eyes, and a rash that spreads from the face down the body.

HPPH urges residents to check their vaccination status, especially before March Break travel. The measles vaccine is highly effective and part of Ontario’s routine immunization schedule.
