The annual Coldest Night of the Year event in North Perth was a great success.
United Way Perth Huron and its North Perth Community Committee announced that over $43,000 has been raised so far.
Donations are being accepted until March 31 as part of the campaign. At least 121 walkers took part in this year’s walk in Listowel, one of many Coldest Night of the Year events held across Midwestern Ontario and beyond.
Funds raised help support United Way’s work in North Perth on housing and homelessness including the Urgent Needs Fund, providing financial support for local people when they need it. Funds also support mental health counselling for families and individuals, early intervention counselling for youth, counselling for children who have witnessed domestic violence and the long-term goal of more housing in North Perth through the United Housing initiative.
The top five fundraising teams were the North Perth Community Committee, Ward & Uptigrove, Jube Station, the Cox Family and the LMC Peace Walkers. The top five individual fundraisers were Tom Soltys, Stacey Romat, Jodi Town, Amy Weber and Joyce Klumpenhouwer.
"In what is proving to be a challenging year, we’re happy to share that we’ve raised $43,036 so far through our local Coldest Night of the Year Walk in support of local people experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness," said Lee Anne Andriessen, Chair of United Way’s North Perth Community Committee. "Donations are accepted until March 31 at cnoy.org, so if you want to give to this worthwhile cause there’s still time. We’d also like to thank all our North Perth volunteers, walkers and donors for making the event such a success."
Exeter also hosted a successful CNOY walk event.
The event in Exeter had a fundraising goal of $50,000, and they sailed by it, raising over $75,000.
"We’re excited to share that we raised $75,623, beating our goal of $50,000," said Michelle Millar, United Way’s Community Development Manager for Southern Huron. "This has been an amazing year for CNOY and we thank everyone who took part. If you haven’t donated yet, but want to, donations are open until March 31 at cnoy.org."
The top five fundraising teams were McCann Group, Exeter CRC, Grand Bend Winter Walkers, TR-E Huggers and Walker’s Walkers (LMR). The top five individual fundraisers were Jesse McCann, Marique Crossen and Family, John Smits, Dawn & Errol Butler and Cheryl Masson.
Funds raised help support United Way Perth-Huron’s Southern Huron Connection Centre in Exeter and the Huron Homelessness Initiative in Exeter. The Southern Huron Connection Centre offers basic needs such as light meals, a shower, washroom and laundry facilities and support through partnerships with numerous agencies.
