Fire destroys large drive-in shed near Listowel

A fire that destroyed a large drive-in shed at a farm near Listowel is not considered suspicious, North Perth's fire chief has confirmed.

Firefighters from Listowel, Atwood, and Monkton were called to the blaze on a farm on Highway 86 between Perth Road 140 and Perth Road 146 just before 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Fire Chief Janny Pape said when crews arrived on scene the shed was fully engulfed in flames.

Personnel and tanker support from the Perth East Fire Department and Mapleton Fire Rescue aided in the effort to contain and extinguish the fire.

A stretch of Highway 86 was closed by OPP in order to keep crews safe while battling the fire. It was reopened around 11:40 a.m.

No one was hurt in the fire, but the shed and its contents were destroyed. A dollar figure has not been attached to the loss.

"The cause [of the fire] has not been determined at this time, but is not considered suspicious," said Pape, who also extended her thanks to the Listowel Tim Hortons for providing coffee and breakfast sandwiches to firefighters on scene.

North Perth firefighters have had a busy couple of days.

On Tuesday, they were called to a farm northeast of Listowel after the roof of a dairy barn collapsed injuring one. The Ministry of Labour is probing that incident.

"Our crews have had a gruelling week. Their dedication and commitment to our community’s safety is truly commendable. Thank you to each and every one of this outstanding group," Pape said in a post to social media.
