South Bruce Peninsula council has approved, in principle, the design for the new Town Hall.
The design by Architect Grant Diemert was presented to council at the February 4 meeting, with some minor tweaks offered by council.
The Town purchased the old Wiarton Foodland on 370 William Street last year to house its new headquarters. The building has nearly 10,000 extra square feet that the Town Hall won't be needing, meaning there will be a public consultation upcoming to determine what to do with the vacant space.
CAO Bill Jones says the options for that space are pretty wide open.
"The nice thing about the design right now is, whatever happens in that other space... doesn't necessarily impact what's there right now," he told council. "It will just be an additional entrance to the facility from another venue or another side, so it can be accommodated moving forward."
Options being offered for public consideration include a library, recreation space, fire hall, government services or anything other suggestions residents might want to bring forward.
Jones says the survey process will begin shortly, likely returning to council in April.
"Because the council meeting last week was cancelled, some of the dates in the report don't line up anymore," he said. "What will happen is, we'll get this on Open Mic in the next few days. We'll leave it running for a couple weeks and hopefully have it at the next council meeting, but it might be the one after that. We want to make sure we give people at least two weeks time to comment."
On top of using the town's online portal, Deputy Mayor Caleb Hull asked that hard copies of the survey be made available to people, as well.
