A person who barricaded themself inside a Vanastra home for several hours is accused of making threats and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
Huron County OPP officers were initially called to the home in relation to a disturbance just after 2 p.m. on Friday. Members of the OPP West Region tactics and rescue unit, emergency response team, and crisis negotiators joined them on scene after a person inside refused to come out.
Police were on scene for seven hours before entering the home and taking one person into custody without injury. That individual is charged with mischief under $5,000, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and obstructing a peace officer.
The name of the accused is now being released out of concern for their well-being, police said.
Police were on scene until Saturday morning.
"There was no threat to public safety," police said.
