Documentary being screened at Bruce County Museum for Black History Month

Bruce County residents can learn about the efforts of staff at a stateside hotel who helped slaves escape to freedom in Canada as part of the Underground Railroad through an upcoming documentary screening.

The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre will be offering the matinee showing of "Secret Agents of the Underground Railroad" in the Museum’s Bruce Power Theatre on Saturday. The 1 p.m. special showing will be held in recognition of Black History Month.

The one-hour documentary, produced by Attraction for CBC’s The Nature of Things, delves into the hidden remains of the Niagara Falls, New York hotel and the artefacts uncovered during an archaeological excavation. It sheds light on the courageous efforts of staff who played a pivotal role at the Underground Railroad stop.

"Through this exploration, audiences will uncover the inspiring stories of the Underground Railroad’s unsung heroes, brought to life by a team of archaeologists and community leaders," the Museum said in a statement.

A question and answer session with Richard Jean-Baptiste, the documentary’s Executive Producer, will follow the screening.

Museum members can attend the screening for free. The general admission for everyone else ranges from $8 for adults to $4 for children between the ages of 4 and 12. To register to attend visit the Museum's website at brucemuseum.ca.
