Huron Bruce Liberals announce candidate for election

The Huron Bruce Liberal Association has announced its candidate for the upcoming provincial election on February 27.

Ian Burbidge will be the candidate for the Liberals as he tries to win the seat from Progressive Conservative incumbent Lisa Thompson.

Burbidge grew up in the Simcoe and Port Dover area, moving to Kincardine in 1983 to teach. He currently resides in Port Elgin.

A statement from the Huron Bruce Liberal Association says that Burbidge will be running on a platform focusing on public education and healthcare.

"The issue on everyone’s mind is healthcare. Doug Ford has doubled the problem of hallway healthcare that he had promised to eradicate way back in 2018. Millions of people can’t find a family doctor. Emergency rooms are frequently closed at many of our rural hospitals. People are having to wait years for procedures unless they can pay for upgrades to their care," the statement said.

The party also claims that "Ontario funds healthcare at the lowest rate in Canada, almost $800 less per person than the median provinces of Alberta and PEI."
