United Way gearing up for Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser

Wingham residents are being asked to brave the cold for a good cause next month.

United Way Perth-Huron has opened registration for the third annual Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY) walk on February 22. The family-friendly fundraiser will raise money for the United Way's Northern Huron Connection Centre in Wingham. The centre offers light meals, a shower, washroom facilities and laundry to those who need it.

“We’re looking forward to this year’s CNOY,” said Lisa Harper, the United Way's manager of community development in Northern Huron and Huron East. “Chronic homelessness is still at the forefront in the region and funds raised during Coldest Night will help address this pressing issue. We invite everyone to walk and help us reach our $30,000 goal.”

Check-in for the walk begins at 4 p.m. on February 22 at the Libro Credit Union and Maitland River Community Church parking lots, with opening ceremonies to be held an hour later. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m. at the Maitland River Community Church.

Participants can choose to walk either a two or a five kilometre route. Those who want to take part but can't make the February 22 event, can also choose to walk any time next month.

A similar walk will also be held in Blyth at 10 a.m. on February 15 at the Blyth United Church.

Registration for the walk can be done online at cnoy.org.
