Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce marks awareness month

January marks Crime Stoppers Awareness Month, and Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce is highlighting its vital role in fostering community safety through partnerships with law enforcement, media, and the public.

This year’s theme, “Empowering Through Education / Preventing Through Action,” underscores the importance of raising awareness and encouraging Canadians to anonymously report suspicious or criminal activity.

The impact of Crime Stoppers in Grey and Bruce Counties is undeniable. In the past year alone, over 700 tips helped police recover $117,000 in stolen property and seize $590,000 worth of drugs and proceeds of crime. Since its inception in 1987, Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce has facilitated the recovery of over $55.7 million in drugs, cash, and property.

The organization is seeking passionate volunteers to join its efforts. Opportunities are available for individuals to serve on the Board of Directors or assist with fundraising and awareness initiatives. Skills in roles like treasurer or secretary are especially valuable.

The volunteer-driven program depends on dedicated community members and generous donors to sustain its mission of making Grey and Bruce Counties safer.

Crime Stoppers ensures complete anonymity for “Tipsters” who share information about criminal activities. These tips are passed along to law enforcement agencies, and if the information leads to an arrest or the recovery of stolen property or drugs, the Tipster may receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.

The service is designed for those who wish to report crimes without fear of being identified or appearing in court. However, Crime Stoppers is not an emergency response service. Immediate threats or public safety concerns should be reported to 911.

To report a tip, residents can:

Submit an online Web-Tip at www.cstip.ca

Use the free P3 Tips mobile app

Call 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)

For those passionate about community safety, now is the time to get involved. By working together, Crime Stoppers and its partners are helping create a safer and more inclusive community for all.
