Snow squalls to dump another 20 to 40 cm on parts of midwestern Ontario

Lake effect snow will continue to fall across midwestern Ontario on Tuesday

A snow squall warning is in effect for Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth counties.

Environment Canada anticipates 20 to 40 centimetres will fall throughout the day in Grey-Bruce. The Lake effect snow will become more organized in the evening, bringing 15 to 30 centimetres of accumulation to Huron and Perth counties. Peak snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm per hour are expected in all regions hit with lake effect snow.

"A change in wind direction will shift the lake effect snow into areas southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay [Tuesday night] into Wednesday. Lake effect snow will gradually taper in intensity through the day on Wednesday," Environment Canada said.

The rapidly accumulating snow and blowing snow will make travel difficult in some areas. Drivers are advised to be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating road conditions. Those who encounter reduced visibility should slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.

In Grey-Bruce, where lake effect snow has been falling since Monday, there are numerous school bus cancellations. The full list of cancellations is available on our closures page.

In addition to the snow, bitter cold will be an issue. Environment Canada states that the windchill will make the temperature feel like minus 15 Tuesday and nearly minus 20 overnight.
