Area residents are being told to get their shovels ready.
Lake effect snow off of Lake Huron is expected to hammer the region Tuesday through Wednesday night.
Environment Canada issued several weather alerts on Tuesday, including a snow squall warning for Southern Huron County.
According to the weather agency, South Huron could see 15 to 25 centimetres of snow by the time the lake effect activity weakens late Wednesday night. Higher accumulation totals are possible should snow squalls become stationary over one area, Environment Canada warned.
Northern Huron County, Southern Bruce County and Northern Grey County are all under winter travel advisories, with accumulations of 10 to 20 cm expected by Wednesday evening.
Blowing snow could also be a major issue. Winds are forecast to gust from the northwest up to 50 kilometres an hour which will kick up the freshly fallen snow, reducing visibility.
By Thursday, conditions will improve drastically with partly sunny skies and only a 40 per cent chance of flurries expected.
