Bruce Power is looking forward to a bright future in 2025, with plans for potential new nuclear builds and enhanced isotope production.
The company said 2024 was a year of milestones, with achievements in clean energy, medical isotope production, and community development.
"2024 was a year of excellence and progress," said Bruce Power’s President and CEO, Eric Chassard. "We are grateful for the dedication of our employees and the support of our communities and partners. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier future."
Bruce Power continued its Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement (MCR) Project in 2024, ensuring the longevity and efficiency of its nuclear units. In August, the company reached a major milestone in the MCR by completing the Unit 3 reactor removal ahead of schedule, advancing Ontario’s largest clean energy infrastructure project.
The company also launched pre-development work to explore the feasibility of a new nuclear build at the Bruce site, supported by up to $50 million in funding from Natural Resources Canada. Bruce Power submitted its Initial Project Description (IPD) for the potential Bruce C expansion, marking another step toward securing Ontario’s clean energy future.
Bruce Power enhanced its Isotope Production System (IPS), doubling its capacity to produce lutetium-177, a key cancer-fighting isotope. Additionally, the company completed a successful cobalt-60 harvest, further boosting its production of isotopes used for cancer treatment and sterilizing medical equipment. In November, Bruce Power and its partners announced plans to build a hot cell facility in Bruce County, ensuring a stable supply of medical isotopes for the healthcare sector.
The company also continued to donate to the surrounding communities. A $450,000 investment was made to support emergency room services in Kincardine and Saugeen Shores; while $1.35 million was pledged to affordable housing initiatives in Bruce, Grey, and Huron counties. Donations totaling $140,000 were made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and $150,000 to Huron Shores Hospice. In January, Bruce Power and its supplier partners made a $100,000 donation to the Saugeen Sparks Training Centre, promoting careers in skilled trades. The company also launched a $250,000 seed funding program for affordable housing projects over five years.
Bruce Power’s achievements did not go unnoticed. The company was recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers and Best Diversity Employers, continuing its 13-year streak as a top employer for young people.
