Teen accused of impaired driving after vehicle rolls into pole

A 16-year-old is facing an impaired driving charge after a vehicle rolled and collided with a hydro pole in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh.

Huron OPP were called to the crash on Lanesville Line just after 4:40 a.m. on December 15. Officers arrived on scene and after speaking to the driver determined alcohol was a factor in the collision.

A 16-year-old from Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Township was arrested and taken to the OPP detachment in Clinton to provide a breath sample before a qualified intoxilyzer breath technician. The readings from the breath samples showed the teen was over the legal limit, police said.

The teen has since been charged with impaired driving and two offences related to graduated licensing violations. Their vehicle was also impounded for a week and licence suspended for 90 days.

According to police, the teen has been released for custody and is scheduled to appear in Goderich court in relation to the charges on February 13.
