Community Foundation Grey Bruce gives end-of-year grants to charities

Community Foundation Grey Bruce has given $100,000 in end-of-year grants to numerous local charities.

The money is going to support food security and housing initiatives locally. A substantial portion of this funding is provided by the Eva Leflar Donor-Advised Endowment Fund that supports the wellbeing of youth and families in Grey Bruce.

With this grant funding, the total funding for 2024 doled out by Community Foundation Grey Bruce sits at $865,000.

In addition to OSHaRE (Owen Sound Hunger and Relief Effort), ten food banks from Tobermory to Walkerton are receiving grants. Other agencies providing support and shelter are also on the list of recipients including Safe ‘N Sound Grey Bruce, The Women’s Centre Grey Bruce, as well as S.O.S. (Supportive Outreach Services) in Grey and Bruce.

United Way Bruce Grey is receiving support for its Utility Relief Fund, as well.

"These grants are substantial and strategic. This year, more people need to access the local food banks while the rising cost of housing is a huge challenge faced by local families. Food and housing pose critical threats to subsistence for people in our community – they need our help," said Stuart Reid, Executive Director of CFGB.

"Together, the United Way and the Community Foundation demonstrate the power of collaboration in building stronger communities. Through their generous funding of the S.O.S. Project and the Utility Assistance Program, the Foundation is not only addressing immediate needs but also paving the way for lasting change and hope in our community," added Francesca Dobbyn, Executive Director of United Way Bruce Grey.

This year, more than ever, the Community Foundation urges those that can, to support a local charity as part of their gift-giving. Visit www.communityfoundationgreybruce.com to make an online donation or call 519 371 7203 to make a donation with a credit card over the phone. Tax receipts are issued in the amount of the donation.
