Police lay first-degree murder charge in Hanover death investigation

The Hanover Police Service and the OPP have charged a 31-year-old Hanover man with first-degree murder.

The incident occurred on the morning of December 17. While Owen Sound Police took a man into custody later that day, both the suspect and the victim's identity were withheld until now.

Police now say the investigation is into the death of 57-year-old Colin Campbell of Hanover.

As a result of the investigation, William Beckman, a 31-year-old resident of Hanover, has been charged with first-degree murder.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 13, 2025.

Investigators believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to public safety.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have any information is encouraged to contact the OPP, Hanover Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
