Huron-Kinloss to hold public meeting on building permit fee changes

The Council of the Corporation of the Township of Huron-Kinloss has announced a public meeting to consider proposed amendments to the Building Permit Fee By-Law under Section 7(6) of the Building Code Act.

The proposed amendments aim to ensure that the fees collected for building permits adequately cover the cost of administering and enforcing the Act. The changes include the introduction of new fees, updates to existing fee structures, and adjustments to calculation methods.

The possible changes include new fees for various plumbing permits, sign permits, exemptions to the sign by-law, and building construction or renovation projects not otherwise listed.

There are also proposed fee adjustments to per-square-foot rates for accessory buildings, unfinished basements, decks, balconies, porches, and farm buildings, including livestock housing and manure storage.

Also, revisions have been suggested for charges for bunkers, silos, steel granaries, swimming pools, temporary structures, wind turbines, and sewage system demolitions.

As well, there would be updates to fees for failed inspections, plan reviews, and engineering reviews, as well as changes to calculations for tarp-covered structures.

Details of the proposed amendments are available on the township's official website.

The township invites all residents and stakeholders to attend the meeting to share their views. The meeting will take place on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 1 p.m. in the Council Chambers, located at 21 Queen Street, Ripley.

Written submissions can be sent to the Township Clerk by email at clerk@huronkinloss.com, by mail, or via the drop box at the Township Office. Submissions must be received no later than Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 1 p.m.

This meeting represents an important opportunity for residents to have their say on changes that could impact building and development costs across the Township.
