Residents urged to clear snow from hydrants and vents

Local municipal governments are reminding residents to keep fire hydrants and house vents clear of snow and ice during the current battle with winter weather.

Fire hydrants should have at least three feet of clearance on all sides. Some municipalities along the Lake Huron shoreline note emergency services are having a hard time identifying where hydrants are located due to the large of amount of snow. Residents that know hydrants are buried under the thick snowfall would help out potential emergency service situations by removing snow around them.

Fire hydrants should have at least three feet of clearance on all sides, with a path cleared to the street to ensure firefighters can access them quickly in an emergency.

Residents are also encouraged to clear snow and ice from house vents to maintain proper ventilation and reduce safety risks. These actions can make a big difference in ensuring fire safety during the winter months.
