Perth County launched a new "Lite" Interactive Map to celebrate Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, Day on November 20.
The new map is a more streamlined and easier to use web application that allows users to view basic geographic features of the county at faster speeds.
GIS Coordinator for the county Gary White says because this map is hosted on a cloud service, it's easier to load on devices. He says it includes a points of interest layer to the map to direct people to important places in Perth County.
"It includes recreational facilities like municipal parks, arenas, soccer fields and things like that. So once people start exploring those features that they're looking for, then they can start looking at what's locally available around them, as well," White stated.
On top of a number of features, White says the map features a search bar.
"And that's going to contain all of the information that's available to them and they'll be able to quickly navigate to those features of interest that they're looking for. This includes civic addresses, road intersections, parcels, as well as providing the latest aerial imagery," White added. "It features other tools that will allow users to measures distances and areas and do simple sketch style drawings right on their map. They can then save an electronic copy of it. There's also a feedback button that's available. Users can get in touch with the GIS team if they have any questions."
“Maps are an important way to connect and explore our community,” said Rhonda Ehgoetz, Warden of Perth County. “While high-speed networks are expanding in Perth County, this new Interactive Lite Map will be an excellent tool to provide the public faster access to important information.”
White says users can also submit ideas to be added to the map. People can also print out custom images directly from the site if they wish.
