Would-be thief caught trying to pry open workplace safe

A dozen charges have been laid against a Brockton man after police caught a would-be thief trying to bust into a workplace safe.

Hanover police were notified about a break and enter in progress at an unnamed business on 10th Street near 20th Avenue just after 7 p.m. on Sunday.

When officers arrived they found a man wearing a balaclava grinding and prying his way into an office safe.

The man allegedly resisted arrest and was tasered by police before being taken into custody.

Police seized pry bars, a lock picking set, a grinder, and brass knuckles.

A 32-year-old Brockton man is charged with break and enter with intent, wearing a disguise with intent, mischief over $5,000, resisting a peace officer, possession of break-in instruments, unauthorized possession of a weapon, and six counts of failing to comply with probation. The man appeared for a bail hearing Monday and was remanded in custody.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Hanover police at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers of Grey-Bruce at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
