Canadians from coast-to-coast paid tribute to the country's veterans and war dead on Monday.
Remembrance Day ceremonies were held throughout the country from the national service in Ottawa to ones in smaller communities, including those in Midwestern Ontario. There were parades and services at Cenotaphs in Wingham, Listowel, Kincardine, Hanover, Goderich, Paisley, Chesley, Owen Sound, Wiarton, Meaford, Southampton, and many more.
Many of the ceremonies will began at 10:45 a.m. and included a land acknowledgement, the national anthem, the playing of Last Post, and two minutes of silence. That is typically followed by the laying of wreaths at the foot of the Cenotaph.
Many legions hosted luncheons and special services following those at Cenotaphs.
While Remembrance Day is not a statutory holiday in Ontario, there will be no mail delivery or collection, banks will be closed as will federal offices including Service Canada and passport offices.
