MPP Thompson backs Ontario’s economic plan, highlights investments for Huron-Bruce

With a renewed focus on economic support for families and community infrastructure, Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy has introduced Ontario's 2024 Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review, "Building Ontario for You." The plan underscores targeted investments and affordability initiatives designed to enhance quality of life, with a strong commitment to rural communities.

Leading the support for this new economic direction, Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson emphasized the plan's particular benefits for her region.

"Under Premier Ford and Minister Bethlenfalvy, we’re proving our dedication to advancing Ontario’s economy, especially in rural areas. Our plan is future-focused, and we will continue to build for the people of Huron-Bruce.”

At the forefront of the 2024 Economic Statement is a one-time $200 rebate set to be delivered next year to all eligible Ontario taxpayers, with families receiving an additional $200 per child under 18. The government is also allocating nearly $88 million to expand its Learn and Stay program, covering tuition and educational expenses for students who commit to practicing family medicine in Ontario’s communities. This initiative is expected to connect over 1.36 million people to family doctors, helping to ease the shortage of primary care in underserved regions.

Thompson highlighted the importance of the program for rural healthcare.

"We are committed to getting it done across the province, by investing in communities, supporting family doctors to learn and stay in Ontario, and putting money back in pockets. Our plan is future-focused, and we will continue to keep building for the people of Huron-Bruce."

Thompson says the province is increasing the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund by over $18 million dollars for Huron-Bruce municipalities, and also encourages Huron-Bruce residents to participate in upcoming consultations for Ontario’s 2025 Budget, which aim to address local needs and sustain Ontario’s economic momentum.
